If You Don’t Look at The Sky Enough

for Colleen Kuraszek

NOTES

I wrote this piece for a close friend, Colleen Kuraszek while I was pursuing a degree at Illinois State University. The piece is in an easily accessible romantic style, perfect for younger players looking to explore new music. The music shifts through several moods but generally has a melancholy feel to it. There are moments of sudden change in character which reflect the manic lifestyle I lead at the time of its composition. This piece was composed at a time when I was first learning how to meditate. One of the strategies I used to slow down and reflect was to look at the sky, observe the varying cloud shapes and focus on the act of observation itself.
