Monday’s Impression of Ordinary Objects is another piece that is part of my collaborative call for scores project. It explores not only the lyrical and melodic strengths of the flute, but also how the flute and piano can work together to create new and interesting sonorities across the flute’s range. Texturally, MIOO opens with a solo flute line and the piano gradually sneaks into the setting. Eventually, a more driving rhythmic figure takes over and both the piano and flute begin to exploit the more virtuosic aspects of expression. The flute and piano are equals in this piece, it is much more of a duet for two instruments than it is a solo instrument plus an accompanist.
