NOTES

This five-movement work is an exploration of the new and the old. There are familiar textures presented in new ways. New and confrontational sounds presented in a way that seems like we have always known them. The composition flows through classical forms but bends their structures to fit within a new musical idiom. The second movement plays with metric modulation and quirky juxtapositions of shuffled semi-quavers vs. straight semi-quavers. The metric modulations that appear throughout the work give the listener a strange feeling of being both grounded in a metric rhythmic pattern, as well as uneasily settling into a new musical feel. There are lyrical melodies, rhythmic impetuous grooves, and intimate instrumental colours that draw the listener in.
