This piece is dedicated to Debbee Peterson and The Northbrook District 28 Chamber Orchestra. While I was studying at Illinois State University I had the opportunity to write music for local youth ensembles and Shades of Green came out of this. Before writing the piece I attended some of the ensemble’s rehearsals and got to talk with some of the members. By working this way I was able to get input from them regarding what they like to play and listen to. From there I was able to compose a piece that we all had a lot of fun putting together. The music uses textures familiar to the students while incorporating new sounds and harmonies. The parts are written for a strong high school string ensemble.
