String Quartet 2 is a set of four portraits. Each movement is a self-contained expression with its own individual musical material, but the movements also share material similar to paintings sharing colours. The movements function as a set but can also be performed individually. If you are a visual listener, by that, I mean one who likes to imagine scenes when they listen to music, then I encourage you to listen to these pieces and to imagine what these paintings might look like. You can use the titles to guide your listening. For the more absolute listener, I suggest following the conversations of the instruments and melodies; the changes of character within each movement as well as between the separate movements.
