Thought Crimes for Cello

NOTES

I started writing these short solo cello pieces kind of as a joke for my flatmate Dion. He was this great guy who ran a second-hand furniture shop very near a college campus, so every year when the students would leave school and go back to their hometowns he would buy the student’s furniture. Then when the students came back in the fall he would sell it back to them. In addition to running The Purple Monkey, Dion also came up with some wonderful little musical snippets, and jingles. Most of them were hilarious and used...questionable language. So initially, I drew inspiration from these musical blurbs and wrote the first two books of Thought Crimes. Every piece is about a person, or pet, or neighbourhood anomaly.  For a few years I didn’t write any more Thought Crimes and then I started writing them again. Sometimes as a way to commemorate a person or pet, sometimes as an homage to another composer.
